Meet the Staff: Beverly Cahoon

Beverly Cahoon joined the Brookside Optometric team as the insurance authorization specialist ten years ago. With her great attention to detail and strong organizational skills, she spends a typical day at the office pulling up to 100 insurance authorizations for patients with appointments and ordering contacts or glasses from a variety of insurance companies.

When a patient is not eligible for a service under their insurance, Beverly calls to advise them before the appointment. She also communicates with insurance companies to track patient coverage, assists the opticians with insurance calculations, and enters new insurance plans into the AcuityLogic management system. Her favorite aspect of the job is helping patients with their insurance coverage and connecting with returning patients.

Beverly also has a heart to give back to the community. During her time at Brookside, she has helped organize Denim Day and a bake sale to support the Women’s Center of San Joaquin County and raise awareness about violence toward women. She participates in the office adopt-a-family holiday program to provide Christmas gifts to a local family, and she is a supporter of Dr. Demshar’s annual Summerfest fundraiser, which raises support for several local nonprofits.

Born and raised in Stockton, Beverly attended Lincoln High School. She studied at Delta College before transferring to Stanislaus State University, where she received her undergraduate degree in computer science. Prior to working at Brookside Optometric, Beverly worked at Mervyns for more than 20 years.

When she’s not at work, Beverly loves to spend time with her family, including her two sisters and one brother, and her three nieces and three nephews. She also loves to travel, bake, and get together with her friends for Friday night BBQs. She enjoys life’s celebrations, from holidays to family birthdays, and she lives by the Golden Rule: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”
