Originally from Upstate New York, Dr. Winnick completed his undergraduate degree at Cornell University. He received his doctorate from the State University of New York, College of Optometry in Manhattan, and chose to specialize in cornea and contact lens care, completing a residency at Pacific University in Portland, Oregon. For the last 17 years, Dr. Winnick has lived and practiced in Northern California. Although direct patient care in private practice has always been Dr. Winnick's primary focus, he has also been active in other areas of the profession. He became a Fellow and Diplomate of the American Academy of Optometry, an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of California, Berkeley School of Optometry, Past-President of his local optometric society and was awarded Young Optometrist of the Year from the California Optometric Association. He has also enjoyed teaching abroad, in both Russia and Poland, and serves as a clinical researcher and consultant for several ophthalmic and insurance companies.

In his free time, Dr. Winnick and his wife enjoy competitive horseback riding and training English Setters.
