As an optician at Brookside Optometric Group, Monica works closely with patients. During a typical day at the office, she helps patients pick out new frames based on their vision needs and style preferences, educates patients about their lenses, adjusts glasses to ensure a good fit, and assists with eyeglass repair and cleaning. She also works in the specialty testing area, using the Optomap Retinal Scanner and other equipment to maximize the examination experience for patients.
Monica’s favorite aspect of the job is the opportunity to build relationships with patients. One especially meaningful experience was when she had the chance to help a patient with her frame selection. When the patient returned to pick up her glasses, she specifically requested Monica’s help again and surprised her with a box of chocolates.
Working at Brookside has provided Monica with great opportunities to cross-train and develop new skills. When she first joined the team five years ago, she worked at the front desk as a receptionist before being transferred to the lab. Prior to her work at Brookside, Monica worked at San Joaquin Cardiology Medical Group.
Born and raised in Oakland, Monica attended high school in Tracy before attending Kaplan University where she studied to be a medical assistant. She now makes her home in Lathrop, and as a single mother of a young daughter, her family is very important to her. When she’s not at work, she loves to spend time with her daughter, her parents, and her two sisters.
