An Update from our 2020 Scholarship Winner

Brookside Optometric Group is proud to support the outstanding San Joaquin County High School seniors in our community with our annual scholarship contest! Here's an update from Elyse Glover, our 2020 winner.

My name is Elyse Glover, and I was the 2020 Brookside Optometric Scholarship winner. This scholarship really changed my life and has helped me better prepare for college. I aspire to become an OBYN and come back to my community and give back to our community to provide service. I was given this opportunity being a winner of this scholarship. Brookside Optometric Group believed in my abilities, and I will forever be grateful for the opportunity and how this scholarship has helped me with some of my college cost and expenses.

In 2020, my high school graduation was impacted by Covid-19 and we didn't have the opportunity to have a traditional graduation ceremony last year. I was working on bettering myself, and I continued to push forward during this time. I stayed focused and active within our community volunteering at many of the shelters and events during the holidays. I volunteered at a number of events to help people who were in need of clothing and food and with my help and others involved we helped many families throughout this year. There was cost involved with volunteering and this scholarship has helped me with my books and tuition during this pandemic to help pay for some of my college expenses. During the time I contributed to helping others, I was able to balance school and work with my community involvement time.

The Brookside scholarship really helped me and I had no idea what I would have done without this award to help offset some of my college expenses. This scholarship is a great opportunity for other students as they are working hard to make a difference within the community. It can help you just as it did for me by giving you a foot in the door to help with the cost of applying to college and to be part of civic activities with your campus. The scholarship helped me and made it possible for me to continue moving forward to reach my goals. The first two semesters of college has been great experience for me. I have already met so many great people my first year. Thank you for giving me this opportunity to share my story. I hope that you also find value in these opportunities to help make a difference.
