Computer Vision and the importance of Computer Glasses

Do you stare at the computer more than 4 hours a day? Do your eyes feel tired and strained by the middle or end of the work day? Do you regularly experience headaches by the end of your day or sooner? Does your neck and back ache as you tilt your chin and adjust your head to see the computer screen through your progressive glasses all day?  These concerns and more are all related to a condition known as computer vision syndrome, also known as digital eye strain. If this sounds like you or a loved one, don’t worry—you’re not alone. Digital eye strain affects more than 70 percent of the approximately 143 million Americans who work on a computer on a daily basis, according to the American Optometric Association (AOA).

The Importance of Computer Glasses

Computer glasses are a critical component to any plan to relieve eyestrain, blurred vision, and headaches—the most common symptoms of computer vision syndrome. Unlike regular distance vision or reading glasses, computer glasses are specifically designed to address all of your needs at a computer’s typical distance of 20 to 26 inches away from your face. This will help you focus more accurately and with less effort.  These glasses can also be made to be worn with or without contacts!  When you wear glasses or contacts that are not specifically designed for this range for extended periods of time, the resulting strain and blur can cause people to either lean forward or to tilt their heads to look through the bottom of their glasses.  As you can imagine (if you haven’t experienced it for yourself), it can lead to a sore back, sore neck and sore shoulders.
